The scheduled court meeting between Fox and Warner Bros. has been canceled. Could this mean that a settlement is reached? Well fans of The Watchmen hope so. So far it appears the movie will come out on schedule.

For those of you who don't know the backstory Fox sued Warner Bros. stating that the studio infringed on its right to make the comic book adaption.

A settlement is said to cost Warner Bros. upwards of 10 million dollars since Fox is already asking for upfront fees and a percentage royalties.

Apathetic 'Meh' Enters Dictionary

LONDON (Nov. 16) - At least someone is excited about "meh."

The expression of indifference or boredom has gained a place in the Collins English Dictionary after generating a surprising amount of enthusiasm among lexicographers.

Publisher HarperCollins announced Monday the word had been chosen from terms suggested by the public for inclusion in the dictionary's 30th anniversary edition, to be published next year.

The origins of "meh" are murky, but the term grew in popularity after being used in a 2001 episode of "The Simpsons" in which Homer suggests a day trip to his children Bart and Lisa.

"They both just reply 'meh' and keep watching TV," said Cormac McKeown, head of content at Collins Dictionaries.

The dictionary defines "meh" as an expression of indifference or boredom, or an adjective meaning mediocre or boring. Examples given by the dictionary include "the Canadian election was so meh."

The dictionary's compilers said the word originated in North America, spread through the Internet and was now entering British spoken English.

"This is a new interjection from the U.S. that seems to have inveigled its way into common speech over here," McKeown said. "Internet forums and e-mail are playing a big part in formalizing the spellings of vocal interjections like these. A couple of other examples would be 'hmm' and 'heh.'

You can credit or blame 'The Simpsons' for the rise of "meh." The expression grew in popularity after it was used during an episode in 2001.

(CNN) -- He's kerpowed the Joker and put the Penguin on ice, but Batman faces a new adversary -- the mayor of an oil-producing Turkish town.

Huseyin Kalkan, leader of the city of Batman in southeastern Turkey, plans to sue Christopher Nolan, director of the latest Batman movie "The Dark Knight," for taking its name without consultation," according to media reports.

"The royalty of the name 'Batman' belongs to us... There is only one Batman in the world, " Hurriyet Daily News.com reported Kalkan as telling the Dogan news agency. "The American producers used the name of our city without informing us."

Kalkan, who represents the pro-Kurdish Democratic Society Party, added that he decided to take action after someone suggested that the cash-strapped community needed more funds.

"We found this criticism right and started to look for legal possibilities of a case like that," Hurriyet Daily News.com reported.

Batman, which has a population of just under 250,000, is the provincial capital of the oil-rich Batman Province and lies close to the Batman River.

In recent years it has been hit by a series of female suicides and features in the novel "Snow" by Nobel prize-winner Orhan Pamuk.

"The Dark Knight" movie is based on the Batman comic-book character created in 1939 by Bob Kane.

Released by Warner Bros -- a sister company to Turner Broadcasting System, which owns CNN -- during the summer, "The Dark Knight" has now taken just under $1 billion worldwide, according to box-office Web site boxofficemojo.com, including $528.7 million from domestic ticket sales and $469 million from international receipts.

The film is also scheduled for re-release in January as part of an awards season push, with focus especially on supporting actor Heath Ledger, who played Joker and who died earlier this year.

Local newspaper Batman Cagdas has reported that several former residents of Batman living in Germany have had problems registering their business -- but Kalkan says he has no knowledge of the claims.

Lawyer Vehbi Kahveci, head of the Intellectual and Industrial Property Rights Commission of the Istanbul Bar, told Hurriyet Daily News.com that the "Batman" name was registered worldwide.

He added that the town had missed the timeframe during which it could complain about any infringement of its name.

Warner Bros said that it was only aware of the action through the media and had yet to be presented with any legal papers.

Captain America Film

Joe Johnston has signed on to direct Marvel Studios' First Avenger: Captain America, based on characters developed by Jack Kirby and Joe Simon. The film will be produced by Marvel Studios' President Kevin Feige. Executive Producers on the project are Louis D'Esposito, Stan Lee and Marvel Studios' Chairman David Maisel. Paramount Pictures will distribute First Avenger: Captain America worldwide. The film will come to theaters domestically on May 6, 2011.

Here's the official logline: In the early days of the Marvel Universe, Steve Rogers volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America.

Johnston is currently directing The Wolfman, which hits theaters on April 3. He is developing The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud. Johnston previously directed October Sky, Jumanji, Jurassic Park III, The Rocketeer and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. Johnston won an Academy Award® in 1982 for Best Visual Effects for Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Marvel Studios most recently announced an agreement with Raleigh Studios to film each of its next four films at Raleigh’s facility in Manhattan Beach, CA which will include First Avenger: Captain America.

New Conan Film

The Hollywood Reporter says that Brett Ratner has weighed two high-profile projects the past few weeks: Paramount's fourth installment of the "Beverly Hills Cop" franchise and a 21st century take on "Conan" co-produced by Nu Image/Millennium and Lionsgate.

Ratner has now made his choice and is in final negotiations to direct Conan, which is aiming for a release in early 2010.

The trade says that Ratner jived to the Conan script by Joshua Oppenheimer and Thomas Dean Donnelly, who looked to Robert E. Howard's original pulp stories of the 1930s to create their take on the character. The writers are doing a quick polish to incorporate some of Ratner's ideas.

Joe Gatta and Avi Lerner of Millennium Films are producing, along with Paradox Entertainment president and CEO Fredrik Malmberg.

Millennium and Lionsgate are eyeing a potential franchise and envision a very R-rated approach in the $85 million budget range. Preproduction is under way for a shoot at Nu Image's Nu Boyana Studio in Bulgaria.

"The story opens on the battlefield where Conan is born and tells the origin story that sets the stage for what will be the first of multiple films," Lerner said.

Latino Review is reporting the rumor that Ryan Gosling is Warner Bros. Pictures' first choice for Green Lantern. Gosling, most known for The Notebook, has also starred in recent pics like Lars and the Real Girl and Half Nelson. He received both an Oscar and Golden Globe nomination for the latter.

Greg Berlanti is attached to direct the studio's big screen adaptation, written by Marc Guggenheim, Michael Green and Berlanti.

The "Green Lantern" was created in 1940 by writer Bill Finger and artist Martin Nodell. Hal Jordan introduced in 1959, a second-generation test pilot, is an ordinary man who was given the power ring and battery (lantern) by a dying alien named Abin Sur. When Abin Sur's spaceship crashed on Earth, the alien used his ring to seek out an individual to take his place as Green Lantern: someone who was "utterly honest and born without fear."

No release date has been scheduled for the film.

Earlier this week, comic shop owners were informed by DC Comics that if they received any copies of "All Star Batman And Robin The Boy Wonder" #10 they were to destroy them, and a replacement print would replace it shortly. Heidi MacDonald at The Beat had the scoop.

Babylon ran with some mobile phone photos of the offending pages, but LITG is updating now because we have the first scans of the objectionable content that got DC in all of a tizzy. And yes, I can see why. Certain examples of obscene language in the book were, as has happened in the title before, blacked out, sometimes with little bits of the letters sticking out to give a clue as to what they may have been.

Except in the printing process, the lettering was of a richer black that the bars, rendering the blacking out pointless. Here are the images in question, blow them up to your satisfaction...

Almost a year ago it was announced that Greg Berlanti was set to direct the live-action take on DC Comics' Green Lantern, which he would write with Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green.

Now, Guggenheim has given ComicCon.com an update:

"I've been working my ass off on Green Lantern," he said, then laughed. "I'm ready for a weekend off. I really can't say too much about it. I've sworn a blood oath of secrecy. I will tell you it features Hal Jordan and is an incredibly faithful rendition of the character. It honors everything everyone loves about the hero. We approach it from a fan's perspective. Every step of the way, we ask ourselves what we want to see and what the fans will want to see. I think we have a script that will actually satisfy on those levels. Right now I'm just doing a rewrite for the studio with Greg [Berlanti] and Michael [Green]. We'll turn that in next week. We just keep moving forward. It's really good stuff!"

Pink Floyd keyboardist Wright dies

Richard Wright, a founding member of the rock group Pink Floyd, died Monday. He was 65.

Pink Floyd's spokesman Doug Wright, who is not related to the artist, said Wright died after a battle with cancer at his home in Britain. He says the band member's family did not want to give more details about his death.

Wright met Pink Floyd members Roger Waters and Nick Mason in college and joined their early band, Sigma 6. Along with the late Syd Barrett, the four formed Pink Floyd in 1965.

The group's jazz-infused rock and drug-laced multimedia "happenings" made them darlings of the London psychedelic scene, and their 1967 album, "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn," was a hit.

In the early days of Pink Floyd, Wright, along with Barrett, was seen as the group's dominant musical force. The London-born musician and son of a biochemist wrote songs and sang.

The band released a series of commercially and critically successful albums including 1973's "Dark Side of the Moon," which has sold more than 40 million copies. Wright wrote "The Great Gig In The Sky" and "Us And Them" for that album, and later worked on the group's epic compositions such as "Atom Heart Mother," "Echoes" and "Shine On You Crazy Diamond."

But tensions grew between Waters, Wright and fellow band member David Gilmour. The tensions came to a head during the making of "The Wall" when Waters insisted Wright be fired. As a result, Wright was relegated to the status of session musician on the tour of "The Wall," and did not perform on Pink Floyd's 1983 album "The Final Cut."

Wright formed a new band Zee with Dave Harris, from the band Fashion, and released one album, "Identity," with Atlantic Records.

Waters left Pink Floyd in 1985 and Wright began recording with Mason and Gilmour again, releasing the albums "The Division Bell" and "A Momentary Lapse of Reason" as Pink Floyd. Wright also released the solo albums "Wet Dream" (1978) and "Broken China" (1996).

In July 2005, Wright, Waters, Mason and Gilmour reunited to perform at the "Live 8" charity concert in London -- the first time in 25 years they had been onstage together.

It was Thursday night, about 8:10 p.m., and Mitchell Siegel, a Jewish immigrant from Lithuania, was in his secondhand clothing store on the near East Side. According to a police report, three men entered. One asked to see a suit of clothes and walked out without paying for it. In the commotion of the robbery, Siegel, 60, fell to the ground and died.

The police report mentions a gunshot being heard. But the coroner, the police and Siegel's wife said Siegel died of a heart attack. No one was ever arrested.

New Rob Zombie Movie

Rocker-turned-filmmaker Rob Zombie has released a teaser poster (see below) for his next movie as screenwriter and director, titled "Tyrannosaurus Rex". The movie is rumored to be about a semi-professional wrestler who is being pursued by a "biker gang from hell."

The film is due out on August 28, 2009 and will follow Zombie's hit 2007 remake of "Halloween". Zombie's upcoming animated film, "The Haunted World of El Superbeasto", is due out sometime this year. Rob Zombie recently issued a brief update on the progress of his next studio album. Zombie wrote online, "Well, we have for the first time ever written more songs than we need for an album. Everything isn't 100% finished, but everything is moving along great. No release date yet." Zombie's next studio effort will follow up 2006's "Educated Horses", which was his third solo CD. He also released his first concert recording, "Zombie - Live", late last year. Although he's still apparently committed to making music, Zombie recently told Metal Edge magazine that the record labels are "dinosaurs waiting to die." Rob said in a recent conference call that he's not sure what future music distribution will look like. "There's got to be something else you can do because CDs, we know that's done," he said. "That's just done. And a download is just not that exciting. There's something missing when you — you can't walk up to someone and go, 'Oh, can you autograph my download?' There's got to be something else that can then happen. I just don't know. I mean, we're certainly trying to figure out what it is, because I want to figure out something special for the next musical release, whatever it will be."

After nearly linking up for X-MEN: THE LAST STAND, Marvel and Vaughn have struck a powerful accord to bring Thor and his expansive mythos to the big screen. As a director, Vaughn's films have been incredibly well-received. Both the gritty, underworld-flavored favorite "Layer Cake" and his latest effort "Stardust" have been praised by critics and fans alike. After seeing his latest effort, Premiere Magazine described the director by saying, "he can shift so smoothly between goofy and gruesome that you don't feel a thing that he doesn't want you to." His talent for meshing action, grit, fantasy and comedy is sure to play well with the God of Thunder.

Nothing Good: What Happens When You Fly An F-111 Fighter Into A Pelican At 340 MPH

This F-111 hit a pelican in New South Wales, Australia while doing over 340 MPH. As you can see, it's not looking so hot. "The plane was flying at around 3,000 feet during a test bombing raid when a pelican collided with the fiberglass nosecone and was then sucked into one of the engines." Even with a hole in a wing and an engine failure, the pilots were still able to safely land the aircraft. No word on how the pelican is doing, but if I had to guess I'd say seriously fucking not good.

Paramount Pictures has released the first two photos of Ray Park as Snake Eyes in the Stephen Sommers-directed G.I. Joe, coming to theaters on August 7, 2009.

"He's the world's greatest ninja, but he's also next-generation. He's not afraid to use a sword one second, and a split-second later he's pulling out his Glock," Sommers told USA Today. "His chief nemesis is arguably the world's other great ninja, Storm Shadow. The two grew up together, were blood brothers and now are mortal enemies."

Sommers stressed that the movie is an origins story, so his challenge is to explain why the bad guy wears a metal mask, why Snake Eyes doesn't talk and other strange things kids took for granted. "For people who know nothing about it, it'll make sense," Sommers said. "And to people who love this stuff, it'll show where they all came from."

Adapted by Stuart Beattie, the action-adventure also stars Dennis Quaid, Channing Tatum, Sienna Miller, Rachel Nichols, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Said Taghmaoui, Marlon Wayans, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Arnold Vosloo and Christopher Eccleston.

Gambit Cast In Wolverine Movie

Superherohype is reporting that Taylor Kitsch (TV's Friday Night Lights) has been cast as Gambit in the forthcoming Wolverine movie, confirming months of rumours that the character will make an appearance.

Kitsch has apparently signed a three picture deal, which would suggest that Gambit, a mutant with the power to make objects explosive by charging them with kinetic energy, will play a major role, but could mean that Fox is merely hedging its bets.

It's been a long wait to see Gambit in a X-Men movie, who's been rumoured since the first film was announced. We're a little disappointed that Lost's Josh Holloway won't be playing the role, because he would have been perfect casting, but we can't wait to see him and his explosive playing cards on screen.

In other Wolverine news, Aintitcool is repeating the long circulating rumor that Ryan Reynolds will cameo in the movie as Deadpool, a lesser know smart-ass mercenary character. As we said, the story's been doing the rounds for a while, but AICN says they have it confirmed. This would be fantastic casting.
