Peter Jackson to produce 'The Hobbit'

CNN this morning stated the following:

NEW YORK (AP) -- Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema have reached agreement to make J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit," a planned prequel to the blockbuster trilogy "The Lord of the Rings."

Jackson, who directed the "Rings" trilogy, will serve as executive producer for "The Hobbit." A director for the prequel films has yet to be named.

Relations between Jackson and New Line had soured after "Rings," despite a collective worldwide box office gross of nearly $3 billion -- an enormous success. The two sides nevertheless were able to reconcile, with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios (MGM) splitting "The Hobbit" 50/50, spokemen for both studios said Tuesday.

"I'm very pleased that we've been able to put our differences behind us, so that we may begin a new chapter with our old friends at New Line," Jackson said in a statement. "We are delighted to continue our journey through Middle Earth."

Two "Hobbit" films are scheduled to be shot simultaneously, similar to how the three "Lord of the Rings" films were made. Production is set to begin in 2009 with a released planned for 2010, with the sequel scheduled for a 2011 release.

New Line Cinema is owned by Time Warner. (Time Warner is the parent company of CNN.) Sony and Comcast are among the owners of MGM.

Frustration

I hate commuting. People say it's better to commute and not drive, but man 20 minutes on a CTA bus will make you change your mind. Person A talking loud on their cell. Person B coughing up a storm without covering their mouth. You'll wish you were in your own car. Breathing clean own air. Listening to your own music. Yeah there is a level of stress with driving, but compared to public transportation, Metra/CTA, it's euphoric.

The world's first guitar with robotic technology

I Am Legend

One of my all time favorite novels is finally a movie. There have been two attempts at this. One was the 'Last Man on Earth' staring Vincent Price and the Other was 'The Omega Man' staring Charlton Heston. In my opinion both sucked. They did their best to make it accurate to the book, but they failed. This new version is set in the modern world, but I have a feeling using the technology we have now and the writers this movie is gonna be great.

GREEN LANTERN MOVIE!!!!!

"In the Brightest Day, in the Blackest Night, No Evil shall escape my Sight Let all those Who Worship Evil's Might, Beware My Power...Green Lantern's Light!"

"While no casting on George Miller's Justice League movie has been confirmed, names seemingly are pouring in for the projected spin-off movies starring the various members of DC Comics' greatest superteam.

According to Variety, the latest name to be thrown into the ring to direct a Green Lantern movie for Warner Bros. is Greg Berlanti, a television writer and executive producer who is responsible for shows like "Dirty Sexy Money," "Brothers & Sisters," "Everwood," "Jack and Bobby," and "Dawson's Creek."

Berlanti, who directed the 2000 feature The Broken Hearts Club, will co-write the script with "Brothers & Sisters" co-writer Marc Guggenheim, who has a good amount of comic book writing experience, and Michael Green, the co-executive-producer of NBC's hit show "Heroes.""

My Cousin Royce's Team went with a Scooby Doo Theme for Halloween.

Funniest Costume: Royce as "Fred"

Honorable Mentions go out to the rest of the Scooby gang, Daphne and Shaggy (Lauren and Glenn).

Funny stuff of the day

Pete would like to start a Hockey teamed named The Serbian Jovanovics. Once we discussed this further we changed the team name to Booya. Also came up with a band name, The Booya Hellyeahs.
Yes people we are that bored.

And in local news Linsey Panakal thought taco bell gave out free tacos the other day, not because someone stole a base in the world series, but because Britanny spears released her new album. Linsey was heard saying, " that's her meal of choice."

A Few Updates

I finally have some models painted. Here they are below. They are not as detailed as I'd like them to be. I will finish it up later. they go in the show tonight. Wish me luck. I am aware they are not Gold worthy, but I'll take whatever as long as it's not insulting.

The fig is done. I painted the rock first. Then I started to add the bottom of the water. Dark colors.

Next I begin to add some lighter blue and green to give off the effect of water moving.

Then started to add white so you can see the water churning as it moves. I will be adding some more details to this. I'll upload those images soon.

Woot Shirt Contest

You can design a shirt based on their weekly theme. Then Woot users vote on it. You cannot vote unless you purchased something from them at some point in your lives and also registered with the site. Last week I had like 50 votes on my design. Nothing compared to the 300 plus the winners took. All good though this will help my design skills.

For those of you who missed my birthday party here are a few shots from it. They will all be part of my album soon. Yeah that's Greg doing his thing, Jason "dancing", Pete and I conversing, and the 3 of us laughing it up.

Ricks Wedding

I guess I failed to mention the little adventure we had once we left Rick's Wedding. Basically we followed his buddy Jeff and got pulled over. Keith was driving his car, I'm in the passenger seat and Vince is in the back. We are all in kilts. The cop asks Keith questions then finally asks me to step out.

Says, "I want you to take the breathalyser test. If you pass then you can drive." So he pulls out that stupid machine, I breath into it, pass and am allowed to drive us home.

Cop says, " How's it feel to be in a skirt."
So I turned and said, " I'm an Indian kid, on the side of the highway, in a Kilt...how do you think I feel?"
He laughed and basically waved us to leave.

So that's that. Much funnier after the fact.

Cognitive Distortions

Read this today. Very interesting. We all do this stuff.

Basically cognitive distortions are exaggerations of the truth, and you have to realize you are doing it, and then rationalize the distortion into what is actually true.

1. ALL-OR-NOTHING THINKING: You see things in black-and white categories. If your performance falls short of perfect, you see yourself as a total failure.

2. OVERGENERALIZATION: you see a single negative event as a never-ending pattern of defeat.

3. MENTAL FILTER: You pick out a single negative detail and dwell on it exclusively so that your vision of all reality become darkened, like the drop of ink that discolors the entire beaker of water.

4. DISQUALIFYING THE POSITIVE: You reject positive experiences by insisting they "don't count" for some reason or other. In this way you can maintain a negative belief that is contradicted by your everyday experiences.

5. JUMPING TO CONCLUSIONS: You make a negative interpretation even though there are no definite facts that convincingly support your conclusion.

a. Mind reading. You arbitrarily conclude that someone is reacting negatively to you, and you don't bother to check this out.

b. The Fortune Teller Error. You anticipate that things will turn out badly, and you feel convinced that your prediction is an already-established fact.

6. MAGNIFICATION (CATASTROPHIZING) OR MINIMIZATION: You exaggerate the importance of things (such as your goof-up or someone else's achievement), or you inappropriately shrink things until they appear tiny (your own desirable qualities or the other fellow's imperfections). This is also called the "binocular trick."

7. EMOTIONAL REASONING: You assume that your negative emotions necessarily reflect the way things really are: "I feel it, therefore it must be true."

8. SHOULD STATEMENTS: You try to motivate yourself with shoulds and shouldn'ts, as if you had to be whipped and punished before you could be expected to do anything. "Musts" and "aughts" are also offenders. The emotional consequence is guilt. When you direct should statements toward others, you feel anger, frustration, and resentment.

9. LABELING AND MISLABELING: This is an extreme form of overgeneralization. Instead of describing your error, you attach a negative label to yourself: "I'm a loser." when someone else's behavior rubs you the wrong way, you attach a negative label to him: "He's a goddam louse." Mislabeling involves describing an event with language that is highly colored and emotionally loaded.

10. PERSONALIZATION: You see yourself as the cause of some negative external event which in fact you were not primarily responsible for.

Spooky Ghost images

This photograph appeared in both the Chicago Sun-Times and the National Examiner. It was taken during an investigation in Bachelor's Grove Cemetery on August 10, 1991 with a group of GRS members. The picture is an enlarged black and white infrared shot taken of an area where many of the group noticed something unusual with some of the equipment they used. It shows a young woman sitting on a tombstone with parts of her lower and upper body being somewhat semi-transparent. The dress she is wearing is also out-of-date. It was taken by member, Jude Huff-Felz.

This photograph was taken with an old-styled Polaroid land camera in 1959 at a location on north Damon Ave. in Hanover Park, Illinois which no longer exists. It shows a real girl standing on the stairs and this strange mist-like substance which seems to be exuding from her stomach region and collecting along the entire stairway. Some parts are translucent while others seem visually opaque. This may be a psychic photograph; in other words ectoplasm being produced by a living person. Externalization of thought.

Funny

Pete just said he's gonna send an article about me to the newspapers.

Headline:

"Local comic connoisseur foregoes sleep to watch movies, tv, and read every book"

....arousing suspicion of a closet heroin and cocaine dealer/user....

I thought it was funny so i posted it.

Bullshit

So basically I HAD a free camera, but some people couldnt stop bitching and complaining about it. Bitches! I've decided feck it I'll get my own. Why? Because I don't want anyone getting in trouble for doing me any favors. Simple as that. I work. I can afford it.

Took this picture of Scott's BIG ASS MUG a few weeks ago. One wonders what Pete's doing in the background. HAHAHA

So tonight we are all going to dinner at the Grand Lux and then drinking it up. Tomorrow we are going to Biaggis and that's right, drinking it up.

New Batman Images

The link below will show you new images from the upcoming Dark Knight film.

Dark Knight

Labor Day Weekend

So I watched the new Halloween flick over the weekend, the Rob Zombie version. I liked it. John Carpenter gave us a great version, but the back story was left open to your mind. I think the version Rob Zombie did was done well because you got a feel for how Michael Myers went psycho. Two different takes on the same character. I liked the fact that the new version moved faster, didn't let things like doors impede his forward progression to get to his victims and how he was all in all, only human. The original was a good film as well. It suggested Michael was human, yet he couldn't die. There comes a point where you have to explain that better. So without argument I love both films.

My only regret is I would have like a couple more jump scenes, but it's been a very, very long time since I've seen a horror flick I could call phenomenal. I can't even remember the last one that scared the living hell outta me. You know those films that stick with you for like a week because you keeping thinking the creature, person, or demon is waiting for you in the shadows.

Anyone interested in Halloween or Michael Myers check out the link below. Some good info, but hell watch the films too.

Life is Life

I'm slowly learning to take the good with the bad and deal with life as it just happens to shift me from side to side like pages of a book.

"For he that shall endure til the end, the same shall be saved."

Well Lena is in town for the weekend. As always I can't wait to see her. She's one of those people in my life that I'd do anything for and trust me there are only a few of you. hehe. Would I die for her? Course. Without a moments hesitation. She has done more for me than most will ever know.

Though it sucks that the city is all muggy and wet. HAHA. Texans always pick the best times to visit. Winter with snow and now muggy with rain. Though I know it doesn't bother them cause they get to hang with me. hehe Yeah I can be that cocky. I'm that cool. haha.

Now if we can get Chunkster out here too we would have a insane, out of control, no holds barred party, or dinner.

Always a good time with those two around. Like Linsey's friend Jane says, "Dude top 10 on my favorite things to be around, the Panakals drunk. Its awesome!"

Internet Radio and other stuff

So let's start with the fact this week Chunkster found a cool website called slacker.com that allows you to listen to internet radio. Nitin here at work told me about another website called Pandora (see link below) that allows you to search songs and artists. Both are really awesome.

Then there is this crazy article on CNN (see link below)that talks about a new exoplanet 20 times the size of earth. An extrasolar planet, or exoplanet, is a planet beyond the Solar System.

HORROR FILM WISDOM:

I found this online this morning.

1. When it seems that you've killed the monster, never check to see if it's really dead.
2. If you find that your house is built upon or near a cemetery, was once a church used for black masses, had previous inhabitants who went mad or committed suicide or died in some horrible fashion or who performed necrophilia or satanic practices, move away immediately.
3. Do not search the basement, especially when the power has just gone out.
4. If your children speak to you in Latin or any other language which they do not know, or if they speak using a voice other than their own, shoot them at once. It will save you a lot of grief in the long run. Note: it's unlikely they'll die easy, so be prepared.
5. When you have the benefit of numbers, never go alone.
6. If you're searching for something which caused a noise and find out that it's just the cat, leave the room immediately if you value your life.
7. If you're running from the monster, you will most likely trip or fall. If you are female you will.
8. Stay away from certain geographical locations, some of which are listed here: Amityville, Elm Street, Transylvania, Nilbog (God help you if you recognize this one), the Bermuda Triangle, or any small town in Maine, especially if it is called Derry.
9. If your car runs out of gas at night, do not go to the nearby deserted-looking house to phone for help.
10. When something bad is chasing you, bear in mind that when you try to start your car, no matter how reliable the vehicle is normally, you'll have to crank the engine over many times before it will fire up.
11. People arriving to rescue you generally get ambushed by the monster, so don't rely on them as your only means of escape. In fact, expect to be surprised and delayed by encountering their flayed corpse at some point.
12. Do not call the police as they are either evil and will turn you in or will not believe you and laugh at you. Either way, you must handle the problem yourself.
13. If you are using a gun to combat the all-comsuming evil, it is a good idea to quickly find a new means of defense, because no matter how much ammo you have, you'll run out just before you kill the monster (unless your name is Ash, in which case, you'll never have to reload).
14. If you have defeated the monster, pay close attention to the camera, if it pans away for no apparent reason at all, get the heck out of there.
15. Skeptics are always proved wrong in some horrible, nasty, painful way. Be a believer.
16. If you are a child, don't panic! Monsters only attack overly horny teenagers. Children can NOT be killed in a movie, only possessed or absorbed. So cheer up!
17. If you've beaten the monster into a bloody pulp and you're sure he must be dead, take the opportunity to dismember, burn, eat, blow up or otherwise utterly destroy him.

Life

The dumber people think you are, the more surprised they're going to be when you kill them.

I found that quote today and it made me laugh. Not much new is going on I guess. Same old. I need to get more freelance work. I'm totally strapped for cash. I've been trying to sell things on Ebay, but that's not taking all the time.

Chicago Comicon is this week. That should be fun. I'm hoping to totally snag a buncha stuff this year.

This week has been so slow. I am trying to work on a website here at work, but everything else pulls me in multiple directions. Everyone else needs help with EVERYTHING. Kinda ridiculous, but totally worth it if I get the raise I'm hoping for. I really want a place in the city already. Im going to be 28 and i still live at home. Just not right. Well wish me luck.

Other than that I am re-designing the Church site and Max Neptune.

Warped Tour Totally Rocked!

Saturday I went to Van's Warped Tour. It's basically a giant outdoor concert event. This year they had 6 stages. 4 main ones and 2 smaller ones. Had a great time. I saw the following bands:

- Alkaline Trio
- Poison the Well
- New Found Glory
- Paramore
- Coheed and Cambria
- Tiger Army
- Amber Pacific
- Bad Religion
- Chiodos
- Funeral for a Friend
- Hawthorne Heights
- MXPX
- Meg and Dia

What's great is I got to see all these bands in one day at one venue for under $40. great deal if you ask me.

Also saw The Simpson's on Sunday. I give it a 6 outta 10. Don't get me wrong it was worth seeing cause I love the Simpson's, but it just wasn't as insane as I had hoped it would be. I suppose since they have done everything over the years, that would tough to accomplish. I still enjoyed the cheap shots they took at the government and usual Simpson's banter, but in the end it was just a really long episode of the cartoon to me. I walked out satisfied, but not ecstatic. I would not pay to see that again.

Wednesday is my Monday

Last night was one of the worst nights I've had in a long time. Started out great. Went and saw Harry Potter & The Order of the Phoenix, then the trouble began. First my printer was late on delivering the prints I needed for Max Neptune. I waited almost an extra hour. Got home at 11. Grabbed my portion of the cards, boxed them up, labeled it and decided to call it a night at 12, but wait life is not that easy. I go into my room and I notice a stack of IMPORTANT paperwork I had in there is missing. I thought maybe i forgot it at work, left it in my bag, basement, on a shelf or any place other than where it was. My Mom, God give me the patience, went into my room and tossed said paperwork thinking it was trash. So from 12am to oh around 1240am I was outside digging through the feckin trash. Get to bed at 1. Linsey calls. I think it's my alarm and I proceed to get up, and get ready for work. 15 minutes later I look at the time.

I am currently on 2 hours of sleep. See link below to see my mood.

Tuesday

Well since it's dead here at work I'll post really quick. Not much going on. I'm working like a madman on getting postcards done for Max Neptune and the website up by Friday. So far it turning out really well. Gotta crank on it tonight and tomorrow. Be sure to check my site links section for updates and this blog. 4 days to warped tour. WOO HOO!

This Weekend

So this weekend I went to a horror film convention. It wasn't too bad. Got a few cool NON- HORROR items from dealers. The actors from Nightmare on Elm Street 1 & 3 were at the event. Kinda cool to see Robert England outta costume, but hell he's no Bruce Campbell. I dunno how many of these I'd want to go to in the future. I like horror, but i don't know it as well as say Science fiction. I can't wait for Vans Warped Tour this weekend and the Chicago Comicon the weekend after. Now the Comicon is where it's at. I'll prolly spend a load of cash at that. Hopefully not.

Entry 1

This is the first blog I have EVER done. Let's see if I keep updating.
So what's new you say? Well nothing. I'm still working in the city, I do freelance on the side, and my mind is all over the place. So everything is the same.
